Saddleworth Parish Council is 50 years old! Are you the same age? Join us at a special celebration!

1st of May, 2024

Saddleworth Parish Council is 50 years old this year! The current Civil Parish dates from the local government reorganisation of 1974 following the Local Government Act of 1972. Despite the Act abolishing the three historic Yorkshire Ridings as political entities – Saddleworth was in the West Riding – the Parish boundaries didn’t change much from those of the previous Parish which dated back to 1937. One big change, however, was that Saddleworth become incorporated into Oldham MBC – although geographically it is still very much in Yorkshire.

Another big change is that Saddleworth Parish Council was formed!

Join us at our 50th birthday party!

We will be marking 50 years of Saddleworth Parish Council as part of the Yorkshire Day celebrations which begin on Yorkshire Day, 1st August. We’ll be holding a special cheese-and-wine celebration at the Civic Hall on the 4th August and would like to invite 50 people who were born in 1974 to come along as our guests.

So, if you were born in 1974 and you’d like to join in the celebration, please get in touch. You can call us on 01457 876665 or email enquiries@saddleworthparishcouncil.org.uk
