Dobcross Band & Social Club

Dobcross Band & Social Club

Dobcross Band and Social Club continues to go from strength to strength. At the heart of our community for over 100 years, the club provides a venue for villagers of all ages to meet, socialise and better themselves.  Now a free house and with rejuvenated Brass and Snooker sections, a regular coffee morning and the well-established bowling section it is facing the future with optimism.

Not only is it a great setting for local celebratory events such as weddings, christenings and birthday parties it also hosts presentation nights such as the recent Above & Beyond award celebration. The venue is used for meetings of community groups and fundraising events. There is even time to slot in regular Pilates classes and a Sunday night quiz.

Music lovers also get a look in as well with the occasional brass band concert as well as the leisurely Sunday afternoon acoustic Live Lounge events that showcase local acts.

The Snooker section has burst back into life with the recruitment of many younger members. The Club hosts regular fixtures in the Saddleworth Snooker, Crib and Darts league. They are always happy to welcome new players of any of the three disciplines having a friendly cross-generational vibe.

As the Club is now a free house it lays on regular guest beers. Recent ales have been the eponymous Dobcross Bitter from the local Greenfield brewery; Arizona from Heywood and Farmer’s Blonde all the way from Sheffield.  Wine drinkers are well served. Club members have recently participated in a blind wine tasting evening pitting the current wine offering against some suggested replacements – so you know we are selling the wine that the members want.

Club membership costs only £25 a year for an adult (£10 for a junior) which gives you free room hire, an entry into a monthly prize draw and significant discounts at the bar.

Whether it’s to try one of the regular Saturday morning coffee shops or to watch a big sporting event on BT sports on one of the two big screens we look forward to seeing you down on Platt Lane.
